Sports and Leisure Trainee

NSW Government program “A fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets” has provided a unique opportunity to create a new role within Temora Shire Council.

We are currently seeking a Sports and Leisure Trainee to undertake the training requirements to complete Certificate III in Sports, Aquatics and Recreation. Working alongside the Recreation Centre Manager the successful candidate will assist with the delivery of facility activities such as learn to swim, swim club, group fitness classes and court sports. This role will work hard to create an inviting, operational and safe facility. 

The position:

  • Provide quality customer service to all patrons of the centre
  • Prepare food and consumables for patrons including use of deep fryer, slushie machine and other appliances
  • Set up and pack down of sports activities and facilities as required
  • Assist in implementing Councils sport and recreation strategies and initiatives.
  • Perform end of day administration and facility closure procedures
  • Undertake training requirements including specific training programs to comply with legislative and Council requirements

The role offers plenty of variety including additional training opportunities to become accredited in swim instruction, aqua aerobics and/or group fitness instruction.  

Application requirements:

  • Willing to undertake Certificate III in Sports, Aquatics and Recreation and other additional short course relevant to the role (such as lifeguard, aqua aerobics, group exercise instruction, swim instruction, food safety supervision)
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a small team including the ability to follow directions
  • Sound computer skills, particularly data entry, word processing and Internet skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors and physical ability to deliver programs (as appropriate)
