Library Trainee

NSW Government program “A fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets” has provided a unique opportunity to create a new role within Temora Shire Council.

We are currently seeking a Library Trainee to undertake the training requirements to complete Certificate III in Library and Information Services. Working alongside the existing staff and Branch Manager, this person will contribute to a customer focused team that supports library and information services to the Temora Shire community. 

The position:

  • Set up library for day to day tasks/activities, including displays and promotional material
  • Operate Library Management System
  • Provide membership and information services to customers
  • Register new patrons and maintain the circulation database records
  • Assist in the maintenance of library collections, including shelving, shelf checking and tidying of the library
  • Assist with setting up/running events and activities such as Storytime sessions, craft groups, housebound deliveries and after school activities

  • Willing to undertake Certificate III in Library and Information Services
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a small team including the ability to follow directions
  • Sound computer skills, particularly data entry, word processing and Internet skills with ability to assist patrons with technology queries
