While the temperature continues to get colder, Temora Recreation Centre is heating up! Temora Recreation Centre announced this week that it will commence group fitness classes in an underutilised function room in the centre.

“We’re always looking for new ways to utilise and improve Council’s facilities for our Shire community,” said Mayor Rick Firman, “The new Group Fitness Studio will help residents to reach their fitness goals, create opportunities for social connection, and improve the financial viability of the Recreation Centre.”

Council is seeking to employ group fitness instructors on a casual basis to deliver classes. Those with a love of fitness, a positive attitude, and who are available between Monday and Saturday to instruct classes are invited to contact Centre Manager, Angela Guilfoyle on 0427 898 278.

“Group fitness sessions range from strength-based training to yoga, and everything in between. We are open to considering all speciality group fitness formats that will provide variety and appeal to all abilities,” explained Angela, Centre Manager.

“Group fitness sessions will be available to be booked online. I recommend people watch Temora Recreation Centre Facebook page for the latest information, as it becomes available,” said Ange.

Group fitness isn’t the first new service the Centre has implemented since Angela started in January. Since Learn to Swim lessons were introduced for children over six months old, over 350 students have enrolled, including families from West Wyalong.

“In Australia swimming is a fundamental survival skill. In 2023, almost 300 people lost their lives to drowning in Australia.”

“Sadly, our Shire community, like many others, has had its share of devastation through drowning in the past. I have no doubt this program will save lives in the long-term,” said Mayor Firman.

Angela has also introduced three weekly Aqua Aerobics classes and three Monday ‘friendly comps’ in the fastest growing sport in Australia - Pickleball.

“These sports are a great way for anyone, regardless of age or ability, to keep mobile, make social connections, and stay fit,” said Angela.
