Bush Fire danger period 2015(PDF, 309KB)
In the event of a bush fire emergency, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) has designated several locations in the Shire as “Neighbourhood Safer Places.”
Mark Cooper, Community Safety Officer, RFS Bland and Temora Zones, said these were considered as “a place of last resort” for anyone seeking shelter.
“That is, these are not evacuation points and there may not be emergency services there, but they are places that have been assessed by the RFS and meet criteria to be considered a safer place,” Mr Cooper explained.
“On days of extreme fire danger, some people might also choose to go to these safer places in case of an emergency fire situation.”
Temora Shire Council supports this initiative and each of the selected locations is a Council facility maintained to appropriate standards to meet the ‘Safer Places’ criteria.
The Neighbourhood Safer Places in Temora Shire are:
- Temora - Gloucester Park
- Ariah Park - Recreation Ground
- Springdale – hall and recreation area
Further details on this and other RFS information, including updates in an emergency, can be found on the Bland Temora Zone RFS website or the RFS website
Emergency information is also distributed via the NSW Rural Fire Service Facebook page and there is also an official RFS app Fires Near Me NSW.
