Temora Shire Council Intro

Last modified: May 28, 2009 - 8:45 AM

Temora Shire offers all the benefits of country living with a comprehensive range of quality affordable services. The Shire is situated approximately 80 km north of Wagga Wagga in the South West (Riverina) area of New South Wales. Canberra is two hours drive to the east, with Griffith a 1.5 hour drive to the west.

Innovation, vibrancy and optimism set against a background of history and a solid agricultural base is how we view Temora Shire today. Indeed the Temora Shire Area has shown its resilience in recent times with a growing population in the 2002 census - against the trend for rural areas. We are very cognisant of the need to protect the rich tapestry of our past - an historical smorgasbord of gold finds, prosperity, ethnic mixes, characters (and a fair share of rogues/bushrangers). Similarly Temora owes much to the agricultural sector. The area is agriculturally rich - one of the safest agricultural regions in Australia and a substantial support industry has developed to service these needs. Temora Shire is however not one dimensional in industrial terms. The agricultural sector is supplemented by a vibrant manufacturing base, comprehensive service industries, excellent retail shopping and a growing tourism industry. In recent years, the tourism aspect has flourished with the opening of the Temora Aviation Museum. This facility is a "must see" to people of all interests and attracts in excess of 40,000 visitors annually. It provides the only opportunity for people to view rare operational aircraft, including the Spitfire, Meteor and Dragonfly, in Australia. We value innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit in Temora and will support proposals that benefit our community. Infrastructure is provided to the highest level to meet the most demanding needs of business and is supported by Advance Temora, a multifaceted development organisation established to support and develop industry and community in Temora Shire. We welcome industry and visitors alike to our community and you can be assured of good country hospitality when you visit.
