Council Becomes Energy SmartLast modified: June 1, 2009 - 9:40 AM
Council has implemented the first stage of an energy smart project in conjunction with SEDA (Sustainable Energy Development Authority). The program looks at energy saving possibilities for the Council, which reduces consumption and costs as well as providing environmental benefit by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere in electricity production. Simple projects such as enabling energy saving devices on the Administration Section's computer system and installing voltage reducing equipment and higher efficiency fluorescent tubes in the office lighting has already managed to save Council over $1,300 per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 15 tonnes. Future programs proposed include reducing energy consumption for other Council properties such as the Sewerage Treatment Works, Council Swimming Pool, and Depot, all of which have significant potential to reduce energy consumption, creating monetary savings and environmental improvement.
